Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect from my first appointment?

We will ask you to arrive 5 minutes prior to your initial consultation to fill out paperwork and your appointment with the chiropractor will last up to 40 minutes. This will give the Chiropractor time to take a thorough history and perform an examination. The exam will consist of a postural assessment, orthopaedic and neurological testing.

The Chiropractor will then give you a diagnosis and if deemed appropriate, a treatment will be performed at this time.

Home or ergonomic advice may be given at this stage.

How long do treatment last?

The second appointment will last up to 20 minutes and from there, each appointment usually lasts between 10 and 20 minutes.

There will be review appointments scheduled at the Chiropractor's discretion throughout your treatment plan and these normally last 20 minutes.

If at any time, you think a review is necessary, please speak with your Chiropractor.

How many Chiropractic treatments will I need?

Advice around how may treatments you would likely benefit from will be discussed on your second visit, as it is dependent on a number of factors.

A choice of different treatment plans will be given to you and you will have the time to take them home to decide what works best for you and your family.

What does a Chiropractor do?

Chiropractors diagnose and treat the mechanical causes of complaints such as neck pain, back pain, sciatica, headaches and general aches and pains, by using a variety of techniques.

There are many different chiropractic techniques used around the world and we continue to learn each year to develop our skills. The most commonly used technique in our clinic is Advanced Biostructural Correction TM.

Manual techniques are used to adjust the joints in most cases, though a more gentle instrument based technique will be used on those who require it or request it. This is often accompanied by soft tissue release on tight muscles.

Will I be given any exercises I can do at home?

As part of your consultation with our Chiropractor, you will receive advice on ergonomics. We will help you to find the best way to sit at your desk or in the car and teach you how to find the best position to sleep in and how to get the right pillow height for you.

Your Chiropractor will often provide you with at home exercises and stretches to aid your recovery.

Can I come for Chiropractic treatment if I am pregnant?

At Inverclyde Chiropractic, we love to help women through their pregnancy journey. This can start as early as pre conception, right up until birth. Our Chiropractor has attended postgraduate courses on prenatal and paediatric chiropractic and uses pregnancy specific techniques, as well as modified and gentle spinal and pelvic techniques.

During pregnancy, the body undergoes many changes that can cause discomfort or pain. As your baby grows, as does your bump which changes your centre of gravity. This can often cause you to overarch your lower back and cause strain on your lumbar spine, muscles and discs which can in turn result in lower back pain throughout your pregnancy.

Due to the overarching of your back, you may notice your head and shoulders start to roll forward to compensate, which can cause extra tension and pain in the neck and between your shoulder blades, sometimes escalating to headaches.

Overall, pregnancy chiropractic can be a gentle and effective way to support your changing body throughout your pregnancy.

Can I bring my baby or kids to see you?

Chiropractic care can be effective for all age groups, even babies.

Our chiropractor has completed postgraduate courses in pregnancy and paediatric chiropractic and after a thorough history and examination, will discuss with the parent/guardian any treatment she thinks would be beneficial.

Chiropractic treatment on an infant will look entirely different to what you may be used to as an adult. We use very gentle techniques such as stretching and very slight pressure on the spine and pelvis.

What qualifications does a Chiropractor have?

All Chiropractors working in the UK must be registered by our regulatory body, the GCC. All registered Chiropractors complete a 5 year University degree to Masters level and continue their education and development every year in order to retain their registration.
